So, this is my bed. I’m ‘working’. I don’t think my husband would agree with that, I suspect he’d say I was making a mess. However, I am faced with the fact that I have agreed to teach people to crochet. At my work. So, this is people I will actually see outside of ‘class’, unlike my previous (not too unsuccessful) delves into teaching. Being at my work means avoiding taking books with me, as this could be construed as me recommending them. Which, in all honesty, I probably would be. This is not appropriate. So, I’m going book free. And am therefore, collecting patterns and scribbles in notebooks and on post it notes into one ‘bible’ – something I should have done years ago.
However, in my brain, it’s fine to keep recipes for actual food, play dough, and crochet patterns in the same notepad. Meet the mammylu book…
Anyway, I am listening to iPod. And somewhere between finishing the new eels album and heading for Sam Baker, (I got a bit depressed as I can’t afford to go see the eels and am jealous of those who are), I came across The Lake Poets. So am now on the single ‘City by the Sea’. I’m a single behind and hope to rectify this when husband gets paid on Thursday. The ‘b-side’ (are they still called that?) to this song is called ‘Small Town’ and between the 2 songs, you can pretty much get a rather apt description of where I live. I mean it’s not all gloom and doom, I’m sure there are some nice places, I’ve just never been to them. However, I wouldn’t (maybe couldn’t) actually consider moving away from the sea.
Which is odd really when you think about it. It’s bloody freezing, foggy, soggy and sometimes a bit smelly. But I can leave my house and be at the sea in less than ten minutes.
So I have to agree with the singer, cos
when I die, it’s where I want to be, in a grave, in that city by the sea
So, go to iTunes, download the single. It’s good. Try the new one too, I’m sure it’s good also.
Anyway, I should be working, (and instead I’m shirking). So, good evening all!
So, I’m a bit achy right now. A couple of weeks ago I added Pilates to my exercise regime. It’s.. Erm… Well… Different! I did nearly laugh tonight at the sight of a room full of women lying face down whilst ‘swimming’ (kicking arms and legs). I went to the gym today too, so I’m pretty tired. I thought Pilates would help with my flexibility, though it’s too soon to tell. I’ll keep you posted! Apparently, if you’re tall it’s harder to be bendy. Not sure how true that is, but it makes me feel better about my unstretchyness (wow! New word).
A couple of weeks ago, we took the kids to see the lights in roker park. When I was little, the whole seafront used to be little up for christmas, as illustrated in some pictures I
stole borrowed from Facebook:
I remember how busy it was, and how many other people were there, just to see the lights. And generally how excited and hyper I was to be staying up late and getting the bus to Sunderland.
As these things do, the lights got less and less, and eventually got replaced by other events. The park in the town centre has lots if lights now in the holidays.
I lost count of how many times we had to ask our very bouncy, very loud toddler to calm down… And slow down…. And then there were tears when we had to go. So mammy and daddy were a bit worn out afterwards. And they understood why their parents were reluctant to be dragged out to these things all those years ago!
Overall though, we had fun, and it’s great to see things to do in and around the city I live in. I don’t mind being worn out, if it makes my kids happy, and gets us doing something new, as a family.
What childhood tradition would you like to share with your kids?
Well, it’s getting late, so..
Good night folks xx
So, technically, it’s the night before this week’s weigh in. But I’m not going to get held up on that tonight.
Technology has made an attempt to catch up with me, and today I’m figuring out how to type in a playbook, so, as usual, apologies for the rubbish typing!
This weekend was the continuation of backyard work. So, I pretty much stayed in with the kids. However, I got a pass out from husband on Sunday night and managed to sneak in a few pints with my Dad. As a vegetarian, nice beer is getting increasingly harder to get as lots of breweries are using findings, resulting in what can only be described as icky fish beer.
We went to a nice pub, with nice beer, called the isis, which sells lovely beer called erdinger (if you haven’t tried it, I’d recommend it). The was a live music too, some members of a band called the longsands were playing, and they were pretty good, doing a mix of covers and original stuff. It reminded me of life before children when that was my normal weekend routine.
But still, it is weighday tomorrow. And gym, which will be worse, as the nice man put extra stuff on my key to try out. And zumba. And soft play. And food shopping. It is daddy day care after all!
This is me, today. I had lost 1 lb. The lady had converted my weight from kg wrongly, I think. So, I didn’t gain weight, but I didn’t speed up my weight loss either, I slowed it down.
I’m not making excuses, but I think it’s been harder to control my diet as I’m weaning the littlest. Feeding him used to give me an extra 500 (roughly) calories a day, which helped cover up when I slipped. So, the answer? No more slips! Better willpower!!
Still working on how I’ll get that though!
Been to the gym and Zumba today. And I didn’t cheat on my weights (have been doing more reps at a lower weight due to ouchiness) and tried one set of reps on the leg press at 50kg instead of 40. The other 2 weights things I do are 20kg they are something to do with upper back, and chest press, I think!
Was a bit gutted at the gym when I checked my results and it said I’d burnt 6 calories less on my cardio stuff. Not a lot, but I really tried to do more today! Hopefully I’ll be better on Friday. So, this post is more motivational. I hope.
In other news, there’s now other people at Zumba using the machine I use before class to do a health check. I started a trend!!
No weight gain, no weight loss. Stayed the same! Waiting for Zumba. The machine here says I’ve lost 1lb since last week. But i’ll trust the NHS lady!
Well, everyone but me is asleep. And that photo was actually from last night. That’s what happens when my husband drinks too much.
We’ve had an ok weekend, it rained on saturday, and husband was at work in the morning, so me and big kid built a den in my bedroom. Little kid cut his second tooth, he wasn’t impressed with the den. Yesterday we bought a £1.99 kite and flew it on the cliff tops (carefully, and away from the edge!). It was surprisingly good for a cheap kite.
Big kid stayed at his grandparents’ last night, and husband went out and drank a lot. Then came home and played human pinball (imagine drunk person bouncing off every available surface).
Today we went to an engine museum. That’s really all I knew about it till we got there. I knew it was having a steam day today, and that it was free. It turned out to be a water pumping station, built in 1869, that the water board have kept in working order to let people come and see it. It was really interesting, but a bit terrifying at the same time!! I’m a little scared of heights, some bits made me nervous.
I think it’s cool, because their isn’t much like that around anymore, it’s nice to show the kids something that works, instead of trying to explain how it would work. And a very nice man (it’s staffed by volunteers) explained how it works, I bought a leaflet, so I can show big kid.
It’s at Ryhope Engine Museum, if you fancy a look.
There was a blacksmith there too, and he made a shovel, I was very impressed. It’s a beautiful building, and I wish I’d managed to get better pictures.
Husband has been working overtime recently, due me shortly being at the bit of maternity leave where your wages stop. This has given me time to have a go at some crochet again. I shall soon be overrun with random bags I never use! Tonight’s project was ‘playing with hairpin lace’, I managed 2 rows and joined them up (but you’ll have to imagine them, as it’s too dark for a photo, and everyone’s asleep).
I think I’ll try and join them! Night night folks xx
Oh. Nearly forgot to report the ‘being healthy’ progress! Went to gym Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and ached today. Been reasonably good food wise, but did have sweeties today. Bad me! Right, really off to kip now, am due an early morning wake up call from little one.
So, it’s Zumba time again. I’m rather unsportingly sitting writing this on my phone while I wait for class to start. I’m feeling anti social.
Today has been a bit rubbish. A lot rubbish, even. Maybe. It might get better.
Baba’s poorly eye has developed into conjunctivitis (thank god I live near a very good eye hospital) and larger child has been a big, naughty grump. And husband has been a bit of a sulky child.
Well, that’s how I feel, anyway.
I, of course, have been lovely.
(I said that’s how I feel, anyway!)
So, anyway.. Today I had a mcdonalds. Bad me! They shouldn’t have made the vegetarian option actually vegetarian! It tempts me. But after an hour at the eye hospital, thinking I’d lost my mobile and various other stressness, it just worked. But I did notice, I didn’t enjoy it as much.
I made a super tea:
I feel a bit better after a bath. Fat club went ok, I lost 2lb. There’s no class next week, something to do with the bank holiday. I’m happier this week, as I only lost 1lb the week before, but think I should be losing more than 2lb a week now I’m at the gym too. So, I need to be better behaved! I want to lose more than 4lb in the two weeks I have until I get weighed properly again.
So, I struggle to get to the gym in the right times, I called in today and bought a key so I can use the machines and run through my program at any time. This means it’ll be easier to go, in theory. I’ll still need to find a babysitter, but I’ll be able to go on a weekend and a Wednesday too (daddy day care!).
I’ve been thinking about the sugar I eat. The amount of sweets I go through increases as I get more tired. So, I just need to get poorly baba sleeping through the night and I’ll be fine. I’m sure that’ll be easy!
I started this post at Zumba, so it’s only right to tell you how it went. The first track was rubbish (it always is) and then the second got worse as it was a new routine, evidently they’d started it last week when I wasn’t there (how typical?) so I felt stupid. Then the next track came on, and not only did I remember what I was doing, I didn’t totally suck at it! So, I may actually be getting the hang of it, a bit. I was better at the cardio bit, but my legs still killed at the legs, bums and tums bit. So, I still need to keep going with the muscle building stuff.
Anyhow, poorly baba is currently asleep, but I’m sure he’ll be up soon!
Goodnight, sleep tight
Don’t let the bed bugs bite xx
