Glow worm – crochet how to

I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm’s never glum. ‘Cos how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

I painted his bum with glow in the dark paint, but glow in the dark wool would be better.

Magic ring/2sc and round 1 in first sc

1 – 6sc (6 stitches)

2 – (1 inc, 1sc) x3 (9 stitches)

3 – (1 inc, 2sc) x3 (12 stitches)

4 – (1 inc, 3sc) x3 (15 stitches)

5 – change colour 15sc

Alternate colours if you’re creating stripes, repeat round 5, 4 more times (rounds 6-9)

change to head colour

10-14 – sc around (15sc)

Add eyes around 3/4 rows from top, 2-3 stitches apart, add mouth as/if desired.

15 – (1 dec, 1sc) rep around (10 stitches)

Stuff your glow worm

To finish head! You might need to add a couple of sc to make his/her antenna look right, have a play around – every bug is different! Squish your bugs head to make it flat, lining up the front and back. Insert your hook through the front and back, yo and slip stitch to close.

Antenna 1 – ch7, HDC in second ch from hook, slip stitch down chain

Slip stitch front to back until you reach the other side of the head, ch6, HDC in second ch from hook, slip stitch back down antenna and fasten off.

If you’re painting your glow worm, use a needle to hold him/her upside down to paint it’s bum, I found my wool cake worked perfectly for this.
